MELBOURNE, 22 JULY Usman Khawaja, an Australian cricketer, claims that the Big Bash League (BBL) must be made available to private ownership if it is to remain competitive in the market for T20 cricket content.

The BBL, which takes place from December through early February 2023, will compete with a new six-team T20 event that South Africa will launch in January.

All six franchises in the South African competition were bought by owners of clubs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In contrast, Cricket Australia owns the eight teams in the BBL, which are run by state associations.
